Dr. Barker-Assell, a North Carolina native, completed her B.S. degree at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then her Doctorate of Optometry at The UAB School of Optometry in Alabama. She received internship training in ocular disease at Northern Navajo Medical Center in New Mexico and in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Barker is a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Denver/Lake Norman through which she received the honor “Rotarian of the Year” in 2006. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Piedmont Optometric Society. She practices full-scope optometry for all ages, with a specialty emphasis in pediatric eye care.
Dr. Barker also has a special interest in optometric mission work, and she is fluent in Spanish.
